Shark bites woman at Sydney beach

A woman is recovering in hospital, after being bitten by a shark while swimming at a Sydney beach.

She was about 20 metres from the shore at Little Congwong Beach at La Perouse around 7pm on Friday when she was attacked.

The 55-year-old woman was helped to the sand and emergency services were called.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for lacerations to her leg and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

As a result of the incident, Congwong, Frenchmans and Yarra Beach will be closed until 7pm Saturday.
