Shark sighting closes Gold Coast beach
SWIMMERS have been cleared from the water at a Gold Coast beach following reports of a shark sighting.
Surf Lifesaving Queensland says what is thought to be a shark was spotted near Snapper Rocks shortly before 3pm.
As a result, Rainbow Bay has been closed and beachgoers ordered out of the surf while officials investigate the reported sighting.
Surf lifesavers are currently searching the water. A helicopter is also making its way to the area to search the beach from above.
