Popular Gold Coast beach reopened following shark sighting
UPDATE @ 1.15 PM: A popular Gold Coast beach has reopened following a shark sighting this morning.
Swimmers were evacuated from the surf at Currumbin Beach after the rescue chopper sighted the shark swimming close to shore around 11.00am.
It was closed for almost two hours, while Queensland Surf Life Savers inspected the water before deeming it safe again.
The beach was reopened just before 1.00pm.

EARLIER @ 12.00 PM: A busy Gold Coast beach has been evacuated after a shark was spotted swimming close to shore.
Queensland Surf Lifesavers cleared swimmers from Currumbin Beach following a confirmed shark sighting just before 11.00am.
It’s understood the rescue chopper made the find.
At the time, the beach was packed with thousands of holiday-goers making the most of the superb Gold Coast sunshine.
Lifesavers are urging people to stay out of the water.
