Local surfing star Stephanie Gilmore has taken out the Women’s Rio Pro in Brazil.
The 30-year-old defeated Californian Lakey Peterson in the final with a combined score of 11.53.
On her way to the top, Gilmore also knocked out a few of her fellow Australians – taking down Sally Fitzgibbons in the quarter finals and Nikki Van Dijk in the semi-finals.

The epic win means Gilmore has kept her spot at the top of the world rankings.
Next up on the women’s championship tour is Bali, which is scheduled to start on May 27.
