A shocking photo of a young boy with autism sleeping in a cage built to restrain him inside a classroom has emerged.
In the image, the child can be seen lying on the ground in the middle of the blue cage, which was built to lock up the 10-year-old.
It has further emerged that teachers referred to the area as a ‘sanctuary’ to try and normalise and justify why there was a two-metre cage in the classroom, ABC reports.

The cage allegedly cost $5,195 to build and was in place for 14 days in March this year before it was taken down under orders from the ACT Education department.
The principal who made the decision to build the cage has since been fired, and banned from ever working in a school.
