Shoppers left stranded as eftpos cards, ATMs crash nationwide
Shoppers were left stranded as Eftpos cards and ATM machines failed to work nationwide yesterday.
Social media erupted with many customers taking to both Twitter and Facebook, confused as to why they could not access their money.
“@Westpac internet banking, website down. Also I cannot use my credit card. Is your datacentre flooded?” one customer tweeted.
Bank Of Queensland confirmed that they were experiencing difficulties along with other bank providers.
“ATM and Eftpos services are currently unavailable. The issue is generated from a third party provider and is affecting multiple banks.”
The outage, reportedly caused by connectivity issues at Amazon Web Services in Sydney, left people stranded at supermarkets and petrol stations.
All services have since been restored.
Resolution of ATM and EFTPOS issues. We can now confirm that ATM and EFTPOS services have been restored. Apologies for any inconvenience.
