Shot fired at police during foot chase in Sydney

A man and woman have been arrested following a pursuit where a shot was allegedly fired at police in Sydney this morning.

Around 3am on Wednesday officers saw a stolen Lexus in Petersham and a police pursuit was initiated.

Police lost sight of the car, however a short time later, the Lexus was located and the driver decided to flee on foot.

Police chased the driver into an alley way near a unit block, the man then turned and allegedly fired one shot, hitting a residential building.

The 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he is currently assisting with inquiries.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

A woman, aged 20, was located nearby she was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment of an armed injury.

An investigation is currently underway and a crime scene has been established.
