Showers set to dampen Christmas celebrations

Gold Coasters planning outdoor Christmas celebrations are being warned showers could spoil the party.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting Friday will be partly cloudy day with a high (80%) chance of showers and top temperatures around 28 degrees.

There is also the chance of a thunderstorm developing at some point.

The winds will be southeasterly at around 15 to 20 km/h becoming light in the evening.

Things are looking much better for those saving celebrations for Boxing Day with only a slight (30%0 chance of a shower, most likely at night.

Once again there is the chance of a thunderstorm from the late morning.

The wet weather will be back again on Sunday and is likely to hang on Monday.
