A popular brand of cat food has been pulled from shelves over fears it may make pets critically ill.
The US-based company behind the Best Feline Friend (BFF) pet food range, issued a statement on Friday, alerting pet owners to the voluntary recall.
“We have recently been made aware of select Best Feline Friend (BFF) canned foods, exclusive to the Australian market, which may have been produced outside of intended formulation guidelines,” the statement reads.

While there is no evidence that the pet food has made cats sick, the range has been pulled from sale as testing of the product continues.
“Out of an abundance of caution and in partnership with our exclusive retailer of these goods, Petbarn has removed BFF canned items from shelves in Australia until our analysis is complete.”
In a notice posted on Facebook, Petbarn urged all cat owners to immediately stop feeding their pets the BFF canned food and to return it to their nearest store for a refund.
