The State Government is calling for Gold Coasters to sign up as volunteers at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Queensland’s Transport and Commonwealth Games Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe yesterday announced that applications for thse ‘jobs of a lifetime’ would open on February 6, 2017 – but those who are keen can pre-register online now.
“The 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast will need 15,000 volunteers with diverse skills and life experiences for crucial roles at multiple locations including Games venues, the Games Village and the Uniform and Accreditation Centre,” Minister Hinchliffe said.

He said volunteers have been critical to the successful delivery of major events around the world, and many thousands would be needed if the Gold Coast is to deliver the best ever Commonwealth Games.
Specialist training for GC2018 will be provided by TAFE Queensland at no cost to Games volunteers.
Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation CEO, Mark Peters said he had been privileged to attend many international sporting tournaments both as a player and official.
“A common denominator for a great tournament and lifelong memories is the incredible enthusiasm, friendliness and performance of the volunteers.
“I’d encourage as many people as possible to apply to be a volunteer as this is a great way for locals to shape the Games and promote the Gold Coast.”
