Small Businesses at Risk of Cyber Crime

Small businesses are being encouraged to update their cyber security against hackers as part of Stay Safe Online Week, running from the October 12.

A Government report revealed cyber crimes cost Australian businesses up to $1 billion a year, with crimes increasing by 20 percent last year.

Small business owners are being targeted because of lax security compared with major corporations.

A Telstra report shows 69 per cent of small business employees are unaware of their organisations security policies, and only 2 per cent of business owners prioritise protecting against hackers.

Further, it is reported that half of technology users fail to use passwords, security software, or back up their files.

Stay Safe Online Week is encouraging businesses to take simple steps to protect against hackers, by changing passwords and creating back up systems for data.
