Smoke alert as firies conduct Gold Coast hazard reduction burn

Gold Coasters are being warned not to be alarmed if they see or smell smoke today, with local rural fire crews conducting a hazard reduction burn at Guanaba.

The planned burn is scheduled to be conducted at the top of Mystery Road, where it meets Guanaba Road.

“We will also be taking the opportunity to have 16 firefighters be assessed to complete a module of their firefighter advanced skills,” Guanaba Rural Fire Brigade said in a post on Facebook.

Residents are being urged to close their windows and doors, with smoke expected to affect the area.

People suffering from respiratory conditions should also keep their medications close by.
