Soccer star reduced to tears on field following sickening racial abuse
A Brazilian Soccer star has been reduced to tears after enduring horrific racial abuse from a rival team’s fans.
Partizan Belgrade’s Everton Luiz had to be comforted by fellow teammates after he broke down on the field after a match against FK Rad, a team based in Belgrade.
“I’ve been suffering racist abuse during the entire 90 minutes and also was upset by the home players, who supported that. They were all attacking me,” the midfielder told reporters.
“I want to forget this as soon as possible. I love Serbia and the people here, that is why I cried. But please say no to racism!”
Local media say Luiz was being taunted with monkey noises.
The club released a statement on their website following the incident.
“We strongly condemn perpetrators of this insane act,” the club said.
“Partizan feels obliged to apologise to all those insulted and hurt by racist chanting”
“We fully support one of the best players of our club, Everton, who has won the hearts of fans during his stay in Serbia in the last year.”
