Australia has been eliminated from the Confederations Cup in Russia after recording a one-all draw against Chile on Monday morning.
Things looked promising at the beginning of Tim Cahill’s 100th match for the national team, with James Troisi’s first-half chip giving the Aussies a 1-0 lead at half time.
Australia outplayed the world’s No.4 side but conceded to Martin Rodriguez as they chased the second goal they needed to reach the semi-finals in Russia.

Coach Ange Postecoglou admitted he was “shattered” by the result.
“We wanted to get out of this group. That’s what we came here for and we haven’t, so I’m just disappointed,” Postecoglou said.
Australia finished third in their group and joined Russia, New Zealand and Cameroon to be kicked out in the group stage.
The side next heads to Japan in August for a crucial World Cup qualifier.
