Socceroos qualify for World Cup in Russia after defeating Honduras
They may have taken the longest possible route, but the Socceroos are off to their fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup after defeating Honduras in Sydney overnight.
Captain Mile Jedinak lead the team to a 3-1 victory in front of more than 77,000 passionate fans at ANZ Stadium.
It was a nervous start for the Aussies, but they came back in the second half with a deflected free kick and two penalty goals, courtesy of Jedinak.
Social media was filled with green and gold following the impressive win, with hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, expressing their congratulations.
Congratulations @Socceroos – a great win 3-1 and now on the road to Moscow and more victories! #GoSoccerooos
