One of the Gold Coast’s most popular Target stores has closed its doors for the very last time, with hundreds of people taking to social media to express their disappointment.
The Target store at Southport Park Shopping Centre has been a favourite for many Gold Coasters for decades and the closure has come as quite a shock to many.
Regular customer Jarad Farrow said he was really disheartened to learn of the closure.

“It’s very sad to see a Gold Coast icon close,” he told myGC.
“The target store at Southport Park was my favourite store, it always had everything I needed and I never walked out of there with just one thing.”
Jarads photo of the much-loved Target store closing its doors for the last time has gone viral since being posted to Facebook on Saturday.
”Twas the first Target on the GC … very expensive back then but became more affordable to many later on. It will be greatly missed by us as it was an easy accessible shop with free parking!” one person commented.
“So many childhood memories having lunch at the cafe next to it and buying clothes/toys with mum after,” wrote another.
Loyal customers have even taken to the social media site to try and find work for those who have lost their jobs.
While it has not yet been confirmed, there are reports a Coles store may be going into the site.
In a post on Facebook, a Target spokesperson encouraged Southport shoppers to visit their Pacific Fair or Runaway Bay stores instead.
