Soldier allegedly raped female recruit in laundry at NSW army base

A soldier has been arrested and charged over the alleged violent rape of a female recruit at an army base in the NSW Riverina last night.

The alleged attack is alleged to have taken place at the Kapooka Army Base in Wagga Wagga between 6.30pm and 7pm.

Police said a 20-year-old woman was in the laundry of the federal government’s army recruit training facility when she was allegedly approached by a 26-year-old man.


The man allegedly forced the woman to the floor and raped her before leaving.

According to the Riverina’s leading newspaper, The Daily Advertiser, the woman was a female recruit at the base, and the man a soldier.

The woman reported the matter to police who swiftly acted on the serious allegations and arrested the 26-year-old overnight.

He was arrested at around 2.30am and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

Refused bail, the man is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today.
