Officers performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived but he could not be saved and died at the scene.

Police said the man had been stabbed fatally in the chest, allegedly during a fight with his 34-year-old son.

He was arrested at a house a few kilometres away a short time later after being tracked down by police.

Following a night of intense questioning, the 34-year-old was charged with murder (domestic violence offence).

He was scheduled to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court this morning.

Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford told the ABC the deceased man’s wife witnessed the horrific incident and is being comforted by her other children.

A crime scene remains in place at the house.
