South African woman caught with 6kg of cocaine at Australian airport

A WOMAN from South Africa has allegedly been caught with six kilograms of cocaine at an airport in Perth.

The 32-year-old woman touched down at Perth International Airport on a flight from Johannesburg on Friday night.

After disembarking the aircraft, border force officers pulled the woman aside for a baggage examination.

During a search of the woman’s luggage, officers allegedly found six packages hidden inside six books.

Initial testing returned a positive result for cocaine, the exact weight and purity of which is yet to be determined.

The woman was arrested by federal police and later charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, namely cocaine, contrary to section 307.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The woman was scheduled to appear before Perth Magistrate Court on Saturday.

If found guilty, the woman faces life in jail.
