Southport Library to celebrate major milestone today

The Southport Library is celebrating its 60th birthday today, and Gold Coasters are invited to join in on the celebrations.

The Library opened it doors back in 1958, and is heralded as the beginning of libraries on the Gold Coast.

Divisional Councillor Dawn Crichlow encouraged library members and friends to make the most of the celebrations planned at the library from 10am.

“Drop into Southport Library on Monday 30 April and enjoy customer celebrations, including a big birthday cake and historical display,” Cr Crichlow said.

The birthday party will continue throughout May in each of the libraries across the City, with customer celebrations and cake during Australian Library and Information week from 21 to 27 May.

Throughout May customers will also be offered double loan limits and will be encouraged to write birthday messages, telling City Libraries their earliest library memories and their vision for what libraries might look like in the future.
