Specialist police called in to negotiate with armed man on the Gold Coast

SPECIALIST police have been called in to negotiate with an armed man causing a disturbance on the Gold Coast.

The man is reported to be armed with a knife and a sword and allegedly started violently smashing property at a townhouse on Fairlight Avenue in Robina just after 12.30pm.

Half a dozen police units and multiple ambulances were dispatched to respond to the incident.


According to witnesses, the man can be heard taunting officers and pleading for them to shoot him.

The Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) has been called in to help police negotiate with the man.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

No further information was available at the time of writing.

Residents are being urged to keep clear of the area.
