Specialist police shut down Cairns streets after two pipe bombs were found

POLICE have declared an emergency situation in Cairns after two pipe bombs were reportedly discovered.

The Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was declared at 11.57am as a precaution after an unidentified device was located outside a unit complex on Short Street.

The declaration encompasses Village Terrace, Heritage Street, Kenny Street and Redlynch Intake Road.
