STATE OF ORIGIN 2019 | Maroons defeat the Blues in series opener

Queenslanders might wake a little foggy this morning, after a night of celebrating a terrific comeback victory in the 2019 State of Origin series opener.

It wasn’t looking good for the Maroons at half time, with no points on the board, and trailing the Blues 8-nil.

Though thanks to a try from Corey Oates, then a heroic double from Dean Gagai – including a 95-metre sprint after intercepting on the Blues try line – everything was looking good.

With just minutes left in the game, New South Wales’ Jake Trbojevic scored bringing the score to 18-14, upping the intensity for both sides tenfold.

Though neither side scored again, with Queensland claiming victory at the final buzzer.

Coach Kevin Walters said both teams have some improving to do before the second game in Perth.

“I think everyone would agree there’s certainly a lot more in this Queensland team as well as the other side.

“It’s going to be a very interesting game in Perth,” Walters said.
