Step-mum’s shocking excuse for leaving kids home alone while she jetted overseas

A woman who left her two young step-children home alone while she jetted off overseas has spoken out.

The 28-year-old woman told media that the reason she left the children, aged 4 and 6, home alone was because their passports were lost in the post and she therefore couldn’t take them with her.

The youngsters were discovered after police gained entry to the Cloverdale home in Perth through an unlocked door.

It’s alleged they were left alone for two days while their step-mother flew to Bali. Police allege the children’s father was also overseas at the time.

The children were removed from the property and are currently in the care of authorities.

The woman has been charged with two counts of ‘Having the care and control of a child engaged in conduct knowing that conduct may result in harm to the child’.

She is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday 22 June.
