Stepfather remanded in custody over torture, murder of 4yo Gold Coast boy

UPDATE: A MAN charged with the murder of his former partner’s four-year-old son has been remanded in custody.

Matthew Anthony Ian Scown, 32, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday morning after he was charged with the torture and murder of Tyrell Cobb in 2009.

Heidi Strbak, the boy’s 32-year-old mother, will also appear in court on the same day after she was remanded in custody over the torture and murder of Cobb on Thursday afternoon.

Police reopened the investigation into Tyrell Cobb’s death three weeks ago, as new information came to light.

Cobb is believed to have been horrifically tortured in the lead up to his death in 2009.

EARLIER: The stepfather of a four-year-old boy who died on the Gold Coast in 2009 is due to face court today.

Matthew Ian Anthony Scown, 32, and the child’s mother Heidi Strbak, also 32, were charged with murder and torture yesterday.

Police reopened the investigation into Tyrell Cobb’s death three weeks ago, as new information came to light.

Ms Strbak faced court yesterday and was remanded in custody. She will face court again on September 21.

Mr Scown is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Tyrell Cobb is believed to have been horrifically tortured in the lead up to his death.
