Stolen car retrieved from Nerang River at Chevron Island

Police Divers have spent the night searching the Nerang River at Chevron Island after a stolen car plunged in to the water late on Tuesday.

It’s understood the car was seen going in to the canal off Darrambal Street at around 8.20pm.

Police were immediately on scene, with Gold Coast Water Police and the District Duty Officer jumping in to the water in an effort to reach the vehicle.

However, officers were unable to get to the car as it is in around seven metres of water.

Dive squad officers from Brisbane were sent to the scene late last night and managed to retrieve the vehicle.

Thankfully, nobody was in it at the time it went under.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday morning the vehicle was stolen from Surfers Paradise.

Officers are now on the hunt for a group of juveniles who were seen running from the vicinity of the scene last night.
