GOLD Coast tennis star Sam Stosur has two reasons to celebrate after progressing to the second round the Washington Open.
The win also marked the former US Open champion’s 500th career victory.
The 31-year-old Queens Club junior was presented on court with a cake following the opening round win over Kristina Mladenovic 6-2 6-2.

“Guess it proves how old I am,” Stosur joked as she admired the dessert, a white frosted cake decorated with a yellow tennis ball and the words, “Congratulations on your 500th”.
Stosur is now part of a special group of just six other current female players with at least 500 match wins (across all levels), and at least one Grand Slam singles title under her belt.
