Straddie fire burning within containment lines

FIRE FIGHTERS continue to monitor and dampen down hotspots at fires burning on North Stradbroke Island.

Crews say all fires are burning within containment lines and aerial water-bombing will continue today to keep them under control.

These fires are not threatening any properties, but they are causing a large smoke haze towards the southern bay islands.

The bushfire was sparked by lightning from a fierce storm which passed over the area on Sunday December 29, 2013.

Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed, and if they suffer from respiratory conditions, to keep medication close by.

Motorists in the area are advised to drive with caution and check with the Local Council and Queensland Police Service (QPS) as there is restricted access to some roads and campgrounds on the island.
