Stranger intervenes in domestic, beats woman’s husband with crowbar

AN 18-year-old man has slogged a 53-year-old man over the head with a crowbar after he stumbled across him arguing with his wife on a footbridge in Sydney’s inner west.

It’s understood the 53-year-old man and his wife were walking across the footbridge above Parramatta Road around 11pm on Friday when they began arguing.

An 18-year-old man who was walking past intervened and walked the woman off the bridge but was then allegedly threatened by the older man.

It’s alleged the older man raised his fist towards the younger man who retaliated by striking him over the head with a crowbar, knocking him to the ground.

The 53-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Police said the younger man remained at the scene with the woman and was arrested without incident.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with assault inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Granted bail, the 18-year-old is due to front Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 21 October.
