Street closed as police respond to siege-type situation at Pimpama

UPDATE 12:20AM | A MAN has been taken into custody following a tense stand-off with police at Pimpama.

It’s understood the man had barricaded himself inside a house on Bidmead Circuit on Friday night following a disturbance and refused to surrender to police.

Additional crews raced to the scene and set up a perimeter around the home while specialist police were called in to negotiate a peaceful ending.

A man was eventually taken into custody at the scene without incident around midnight.

Initial reports suggesting that a person was being held against their will inside the home are yet to be confirmed.

EARLIER 11:30PM | HEAVILY-armed police are on the scene of a siege-type situation unfolding at a house at Pimpama on the northern Gold Coast.

Scores of police have swooped on Bidmead Circuit where there are reports of a person possibly being held against their will inside a house.

It remains unclear exactly how many people are inside the home or what sparked the stand-off.

It’s understood the street has been closed while emergency services respond to the delicate situation.

The incident has triggered a major emergency response, with the area swarming with uniformed and plain-clothed police.

The dog squad is on the scene and the police helicopter is monitoring from above.

Paramedics are also on standby.
