Strikes to cause delays at Centrelink, Medicare and ATO

Centrelink and Medicare customers are being warned to not visit branches today, as tens of thousands of public sector workers walk off the job.

Centrelink has advised that government payments will go through as normal but if you wish to deal with an issue, it would be best to use its online services.

The half-day strike involves workers from the departments of Human Services, Employment, Environment, Education, Agriculture, Defence and Veteran Affairs.

Some staff from the Tax Office, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Bureau of Statistics will also walk off the job.

The action is the latest bid by the Community and Public Sector Union to force the Federal Government to settle pay disputes.

It comes after days of strike action at all eight international airports across the country, including Gold Coast Airport, as immigration and border patrol staff stop work.

Those strikes are continuing and passengers have been warned of delays.
