Suns Challenged

Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna has challenged his crop of up-and-coming stars to lift the standard in the absence of injured captain Gary Ablett, starting with today’s game against the Western Bulldogs in Cairns.

Overnight, Hawthorn re-claimed top spot on the AFL ladder from Sydney, after a 12-point win over Adelaide. Coach Alastair Clarkson praised his side, saying they’ve regained their mental strength following last week’s shock 20-point loss to North Melbourne. The Hawks’ Jack Gunstan kicked four goals and says it was a tough game against his old club.

In today’s other games, Melbourne play Geelong at the MCG, North Melbourne and St Kilda clash in Hobart, Brisbane Lions host West Coast and the Swans welcome Carlton to the SCG.
