Suns continue to battle injuries

IT’S the news Gold Coast Suns fans have been waiting for- Gary Ablett back training with the rest of the squad.

He made his return yesterday after having reconstructive surgery on his dislocated shoulder just a fortnight ago.

He jumped on the exercise bikes with a few of the other boys with his arm firmly secured in a sling.

Unfortunately, Ablett won’t be making a surprise return for this week’s QClash and is still expected to sit out the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Dio Prestia has been named as captain for this weekend’s clash with the Brisbane Lions but he’ll be without a few other star players also ruled out with injury.

Brandon Matera, who’s been sidelined since round 15 after aggravating a lingering adductor complaint, is expected to miss out this weekend.

Kade Kolodjashnij is also in doubt as he battles to overcome a hamstring strain suffered in the side’s 28-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in Cairns.

He’s expected to make his return within the next week or two.

Likewise, Trent McKenzie is set to benefit from another week on the sidelines, with the rebounding half-back also nursing a hamstring complaint of his own.

The Suns will take on the Brisbane Lions on Saturday.
