Suns kick start their way into AFL season with 18 point victory

THE Gold Coast Suns have kick started their way into the AFL season with an impressive 18-point victory over Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

In front of 19,452 screaming fans, it was the first time the Gold Coast had hosted Richmond at Metricon Stadium.

The Suns sealed the 87 to 69 win in front of the fifth biggest crowd in the stadium’s history.

It was the Suns’ third victory from four games against the Tigers.

The Suns 19-year-old Jack Martin cut short his highly-anticipated AFL debut after dislocating his shoulder midway through the first quarter.

Meanwhile, forward Charlie Dixon was also taken out, not returning to the field for the third quarter after failing a concussion test during halftime.

Team captain Gary Ablett went on to kick the final goal of the game, his second for the match, after topping the disposals tally with 41 touches.
