Suns lose grip of victory in wet conditions

THE GOLD COAST SUNS have fallen to the Fremantle Dockers in slippery conditions at Patersons Stadium on Saturday night.

All seemed to be going well for the Suns in the first quarter, scoring the first two goals of the match inside three minutes.

However, they could only manage just three more majors for the entire engagement as the Dockers wore them down with five unanswered majors spreading the first break and then six of the last seven in the game.

In drizzling rain for much of a tight and scrappy congested clash, Fremantle  emerged supreme to take out the low scoring game, 12.15 (87) to 5.9 (39).

Suns ace Gary Ablett was brave against Ryan Crowley, while David Swallow shone with his big possession winning retaliation.

Ablett had to contend with typically tight-checking from Crowley as the game’s top player gathered 24 possessions and Swallow a game-high 24 touches, 18 of them earned from a direct contest.

The Dockers are now finely primed and ready for a blockbuster Grand Final re-match with reigning premiers Hawthorn in Melbourne on Friday night.
