Suns to play Gary Ablett in first home fixture of 2018

The AFL has released the full 2018 fixtures and it’s revealed the Gold Coast Suns won’t play a home game until June in 2018 and when we do, it’s against the club’s best ever player.

Metricon Stadium will be used for the Commonwealth Games at the start of the season and the closest the Suns will get to their home turf is their round five fixture against the Lions at the Gabba.

In the back half of the year, Geelong, St. Kilda, Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon will make the trip north.

Round 11 will see the return of the Suns’ inaugural captain, Gary Ablett when the Cats come up to the coast.

The Suns will play Geelong twice in 2018.

Gold Coast Chief Executive Mark Evans is looking forward to welcoming traditional powerhouse clubs north of the border.

“We couldn’t be happier to see six big Victorian clubs come to Metricon Stadium in 2018,” he said.

“Our first game back at Metricon Stadium in Round 11 against Geelong will be a huge welcome home party, and the fixture builds from there.”

The Suns “home” games until round 11 will be played in Cairns, the new Perth Stadium, the Gabba and China.
