Supermarket worker spat on by alleged thief

A supermarket worker has been spat on after confronting an alleged thief at a grocery store in Sydney’s west.

The appalling incident happened just after 2.30pm yesterday, at a supermarket on Victoria Road in Marrickville.

It’s understood a man left the store after allegedly failing to pay for some items, and when a young male worker confronted him about it, the man spat on him.

Police were called and launched an investigation, arresting a 40-year-old man at a Broadway shopping centre this morning.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with shoplifting and common assault.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
