Surfers Paradise to remain partially closed after water main burst

UPDATE @ 10.30am | COUNCIL has confirmed a busy Surfers Paradise road will remain partially closed after a water main burst oevrnight.

Crews have worked through the night to fix the issue, affecting parts of The Esplanade.

Council has confirmed the road between Cavill Mall and Hanlan Street is expected to be partially reopened by 11am today.


It is expected the Esplanade will be partially blocked for the next couple of days as crews work to fully restore the area.

“The safety of our staff, residents and visitors is our number one priority and we request local traffic and pedestrians follow the instructions of Traffic Control Officers,” A COunil statement read.

“We appreciate your patience as works continue.”

EARLIER @ 06.40AM | The Esplanade in Surfers Paradise is closed this morning, after a water main burst overnight.

Council has closed the Esplanade south of Elkhorn Avenue to Cavill Mall, while Council employees work to repair the damage.

It’s understood the main burst sometime overnight.

City of Gold Coast has promised to restore the area as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank people for their patience and assistance,” a statement from Council reads.

Traffic was being diverted through the area at the time of writing.
