Surprise! Dave Hughes revealed as the buyer of Elyse & Josh’s winning ‘block’ house

There was a surprise celebrity twist on The Block finale overnight, with Australian comedian Dave Hughes buying the winning home, renovated by young Melbourne couple Josh and Elyse.

Viewers of the popular renovating show were left stunned when host Scotty Cam announced the lucky buyer was none other than ‘Hughesy’ on Sunday night.

He ended up buying the renovated five bedroom house in Elsternwick for $3.067 million – making Josh and Elyse the winners of the season, taking home a further $100,000 in prize money on top of their $450,000 profit.

“When @dhughesy changes your life! Hughesy brought our block home,” the excited couple wrote on Instagram following the auction.

It’s understood the comedian bought the home as an investment.

“These two and their team did a cracking job and created a brilliant house. And now my team take over! What could go wrong? #winners” Hughesy posted.

Melbourne couple Sarah and Jason sold their home for $3.007 million, taking home $387,000.

Townsville couple Hannah and Clint took home $95,000 after their house sold for $2.615 million and Sticks and Wombat, from NSW, won $130,000 after selling their home for $2.65 million.

It was a heartbreaking auction for Perth Couple Ronnie and Georgia who failed to reach reserve and passed in on a $2.6 million bid.

They ended up taking home $161,000 after their stylish home sold for $2.781 million by negotiation.
