Suspected arson attack under investigation at Ashmore school

A suspicious fire is under investigation at a school in Ashmore.

It is believed that someone walked onto the school grounds on Edmund Rice Drive and Southport Nerang Road at 1:30pm on Sunday and set fire to a building.

Emergency services were called to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to the balcony of one building.


Lockers, port racks and a ceiling were badly damaged but there was no structural damage to the building.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity.
