Stolen car plunges into Gold Coast river

Three people are on the run after a car was driven into the Nerang River at Surfers Paradise.

The white Mazda 6 hatchback plunged into the water off Amalfi Drive around 1pm on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses report seeing two young females and a young male emerge from the water before taking off down the road on foot.

A search of the area failed to find the trio.

Police have confirmed the car was stolen during a break-in at a home in Palm Beach earlier on Monday.
