Suspended Logan Mayor feels “robbed” by State Government

Suspended Logan City Council Mayor, Luke Smith, is still unsure of what exactly his suspension entails.

Cr Smith was suspended as part of an on-going Crime and Corruption Probe into Local Government.

He’s fighting corruption and perjury charges and said he’s been “robbed” of the opportunity to serve as Mayor.

The former Mayor discovered his suspension through Twitter and only had it confirmed today.

“I called the Minister’s office after a saw the Tweet,” he said.

“I don’t know what being suspended actually means, I’m yet to find that out.

“I don’t understand what the Minister expects of me through this suspension, am I allowed in the building? Am I allowed to talk to staff?”

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe has taken responsibility for the blunder which saw the media release published before the Minister was able to speak to Cr Smith.

The Minister detailed the suspension for the five staffers saying they will remain on full pay while the corruption and misconduct allegations are dealt with.
