Suspicious fire spreads to pet shop, killing a number of animals

Investigations are underway after a fire broke out in a grocery shop, spread to a pet store and killed a number of animals overnight.

Emergency services were called to a group of shops along Kingston Road and Park Road in Slacks Creek around 9.00 pm.

It’s understood a fire had broken out in a grocery store, before spreading to a number of nearby businesses.

One of the businesses was the ‘Pet Country’ shop, which housed a number of animals.

Police have confirmed that some of the animals perished as a result of the fire.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by around 10.30 pm, having to then ventilate three businesses.

A crime scene has since been declared and investigations will resume this morning, with the smoke too think to investigate last night.
