THE president of one of the biggest surf lifesaving clubs in Australia says not everyone keen to compete in a new youth championship at the national titles will be able to take part.
The event, to be held at North Kirra on the Gold Coast next April, will be open to under 14 and 15 year old competitors.
The president of the Gold Coast’s Northcliffe club, David Shields, says Swimming Australia’s decision to hold its national age championships in Sydney at the same time will limit the options for some young athletes.

“Their national age championships will be on the same week as the Australian surf lifesaving championships, so it is going to be a big issue for a lot of children, especially on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“A lot do swimming and surf lifesaving, so they are going to have to make a decision, they are going to do swimming or they are going to do surf?”
