Swimmer ‘critical’ after nearly drowning in Southport

A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after nearly drowning at a pool on the Gold Coast.

Emergency crews were called to the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, off Marine Parade and Nind Street in Southport, just before 11.00am on Saturday.

Upon arrival, they found a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, had come into trouble while swimming.

He was pulled from the water and treated on scene by Critical Care Paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit.

The man has since been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
