Sydney man arrested, accused of planning terrorist attack in Australia

UPDATE: A young man has been arrested in Sydney, accused of helping plan a terrorist attack in Australia.

The 24-year-old Bankstown man was arrested on Thursday and at the time of writing was in the process of being charged with one count of conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act.

In a joint statement, the Australian Federal Police and the NSW police Force stressed there was no threat to the community following the latest arrest.

It’s understood the 24-year-old man was arrested in relation to material seized by counter terrorism-officers during raids in December 2014.

The man is one of a number of people who have already been charged with helping create documents connected with preparations to facilitate, assist or engage a person to undertake a terrorist act.
