Sydney police officer charged with child sex offences

A SYDNEY police officer will face court next month, charged with a number of child sex offences.

The 31-year-old Senior Constable was arrested at Sutherland Police Station on Wednesday following a protracted investigation led by the Professional Standards Command.

The officer, identified only as being attached to a Local Area Command in the North West Metro Region, is accused of having sex with and indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl between 2011 and 2012.

Police were first made aware of the serious allegations in November last year.

The Senior Constable was on Wednesday night formally charged with one count each of sexual intercourse with a child under 16 and aggravated indecent assault with a child under 16.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on June 30.
