Sydney set to swelter in hottest December night in 150 years

Sydney has sweltered through one of its hottest December nights in recent years, and is still on track to break weather bureau records.

Weather experts say if temperatures didn’t drop below 26.3 degrees Celsius overnight, it would be the warmest December night since 1868, which is almost 150 years.

Meanwhile, the NSW Rural Fire Service has placed total fire bans on the Greater Sydney, Illawarra/Shoalhaven, lower and upper Central West regions with temperatures expected to top 38 degrees today.
