SYDNEY SIEGE: How it all unfolded live over breakfast television

HORRIFIC images of Australian hostages brandishing a black Islamic flag while pressed against shopfront windows in Sydney’s Martin Place have shocked the globe.

The frightening scenes unfolded life over breakfast television on Monday, with Channel Seven’s The Morning Show hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur finding themselves suddenly reporting on what is likely to become the biggest story of their media careers.

Heavily armed tactical response forces swooped on the popular plaza, taking up positions just outside the glass-walled studio.

At the request of police, the duo were forced away from the glass window and ushered to an upper level of the building while producers handed over transmission to Seven’s Melbourne newsroom.

Here is how it all unfolded live.
