Sydney Trains employee struck and killed by train in Sydney’s west

A Sydney Trains employee has been struck and killed by a passenger train while carrying out maintenance on tracks in Sydney’s west.

The employee was working on the T1 Western Line between Clyde and Auburn when he was struck shortly after 6am by a NSW TrainLink Blue Mountains service bound for Sydney.

In a statement released a short time ago, Sydney Trains Chief Executive Howard Collins said Sydney Trains was working closely with authorities to determine the exact cause of the accident.

“We’re greatly saddened by the tragic news this morning and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of the employee,” Mr Collins said.

“I have spoken with Minister Constance and notified him of this tragedy.

“Minister Constance has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the family during this difficult time.”

Assistance is being provided to both the family and staff of Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink.
